Myth or Fallacy: Get Organized and Stay Organized?

Before the family got into the office–

Because the words “get organized” tend to bring on “get guilt”, I thought to put a few minds at ease by sharing these pictures. You might think the messy one is the BEFORE and the clean one is AFTER. But no, it is the other way around.
You see, getting organized is one step, but staying organized is another one entirely. And if you have a family, it’s often out of your hands.
So if you gaze around your kitchen only to find that once-clean counter is teeming with backpacks, basketballs and half-finished lunches, know that you are not alone and that this is normal.
As for tips on how to get organized, here are a few that hopefully help:
1. Clear one space. Whether it’s a kitchen counter, bathroom, or closet, focus on one space and see it through to completion. Take everything off or out that doesn’t belong, and put back only what should be there. Enjoy the clarityJ
2. Use my VEERS formula. I’ve shared it on segments, blog posts and in my book Faithful, Fit and Fabulous. It’s a simple 3-step formula that I use for everything in my life including time and space management. Click here for a quick link to a simple explanation. (Scroll to the bottom of the page.)

After the family trashed it!

3. Teach your family how to use the space. After clearing an area, show your family how it’s supposed to function, and use a reward for those that follow it (and an incentive for those that don’t—as in the promise of extra dish duty, laundry folding, or toilet cleaning). Use labels and tubs to contain the items and help others know where the items belong. As family members better understand what you’re after, they’ll be more likely to follow through.
Try one of these tips for a cleaner, clearer, happier space, and mama.

Enjoy!
