How is your 40 Days of Service going? Isn’t it amazing how frequently you notice being served? And see the subtle opportunities to serve others?
Over the weekend I had my own “Touched by Angel” moment. Not shazammy. Just deeply poignant. I’d had a difficult experience and had done my best to move beyond it. Later that day I took my girls to the new Disney “Cinderella” movie. When I entered the sparse local theater, surprisingly a friend called out to me. Unbelievably ironic, in the mix of about twenty people there, she was one whom I had thought of during the week to connect with but hadn’t.
In the low lit theater, before the movie started, and in quiet tones we conversed very briefly about life and happiness and the Lord’s timing. Without knowing, she said things that deeply resonated in my soul. Healing, helping, and caring, I felt the underpinnings of something divine at work.
That one brief moment could have been a coincidence. But I know it wasn’t. As we watched the movie, the theme of “Have courage, be kind” also resonated in my soul. And later, reading scripture, I happened to read this verse: “Therefore, fear not, little flock; do good.” There it was, that same mantra—have courage, be kind (should Disney be worried about crediting the source?!)
To me, those are the most connecting service opportunities—the unexpected and unannounced. And yet perfectly timed, if we’re willing to be present and participate.
I encourage you to continue your marvelous do-good service and experience the happiness it brings. Feel free to share with us any thoughts or moments on Facebook at Back to Basics, or click over to Connie’s Corner.
Enjoy this week’s excerpt from 40 Days with the Savior to continue preparing for a beautiful Easter season.
Best,
Connie
DAY 27: HE LIFTS BURDENS
Luke 4:40
Now when the sun was setting, all they that had any sick with divers diseases brought them unto him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.
No matter the ailment—spiritual, physical, emotional, mental—the Lord healed those around Him who had the faith to be healed and who were willing to trust Him enough to lay their burdens at His feet. With His talents and abilities, He could have been or achieved anything, and to perfection, but He chose to spend His time serving even the most humble of followers.
Why spend time with the lowliest of society?
We find an answer in Mark 10:45: “For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”
The Savior went about doing good to all, no matter a person’s personality or status and independent of whether they’d been kind to Him or not. Throughout His ministry, He lifted burdens and made people whole.
What burdens do you need to release? What situations, experiences, or people’s responses make you feel overwhelmed, frustrated, or seem beyond your capacity to bear? Whatever it is, He’s felt it, lived it, and overcome it. But for Him to release us from those feelings, we must willingly and consciously lay those burdens at His feet—through prayer, faith, and action—so that He can lift them as He knows best.
What is one burden you can release and give to the Savior?

Connie. Love you dear. I love this scripture: 2 Nephi 10:23 Therefore, cheer up your hearts, and remember that ye are free to act for yourselves–to choose the way of everlasting death or the way of eternal life. That goes for us AND everyone else. 😉 XOXO
