DAY 14: HE SHUNNED ADULATION

Day-14Luke 12:13
“13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.
I’m amazed by the Savior’s constant ability to keep perspective even as multitudes thronged, adored, and celebrated Him. He understood knew what happens when we become too aware of our own good, and focus on others’ compliments. In the scripture above, the people crowded the streets leading to the temple, shouting praises to Him as their Lord. Within one week, the multitudes would shout again, only this time calling for His crucifixion.
The Savior knew the adulation was fleeting. And on a hillside filled with thousands of adoring people, He didn’t hesitate to teach real doctrine, hard principles that would bring the people ultimate happiness. And taught it knowing they wouldn’t like it, that many would stand and leave, unable to continue with Him because it was just too hard to hear it.
I’m grateful for His example, constantly showing that the praise of society, or lack of, means nothing. Whether you’re an unappreciated mother, an overlooked office worker, or an unpaid volunteer, feel the value of what you do within yourself. The important thing is being true to what you know, and doing it the best you can. It’s loving fully, and putting first what matters most. Whether people praise you or not, really doesn’t matter in the end.
How can you let go of needing to be praised or complimented?
Best,
Connie
