First Steps of Change!

Goals“I don’t want to get to the end of my life and find that I lived just the length of it. I want to have lived the width of it as well.” –Diane Ackerman

I love that quote.

It reminds me to live openly, fully, joyfully, and bravely.

And if you and I haven’t been, we can choose differently.

Change is possible at any time, for any one, at any stage. And success or dreams or goals can be had for the young or old: LeAnn Rimes won her first two Grammy awards at the age of 14, Grandma Moses started painting at the age of 78, and Laura Ingalls Wilder didn’t start writing her “Little House” series until she was in her 60’s.

No excuses, no doubts, no hesitations.

Today, look at your life with unflinching honesty and ask yourself what three changes would make the difference for you to have and live a more fulfilling life this coming year. Consider what matters most to you in terms of people, experiences, purpose–now and in the future.

Is that what you are focused on in daily life?

How can you focus more fully on them?

With just three changes.

Now what is one way to start each of those changes?

Don’t begin all three at once, but just look at the answers you’ve written and think, simply think on where they could take you:
What if you achieved those three changes?

What would your life look like?

Who would you become?

How would you feel?

Hold onto those thoughts and feelings.

Now take the one change that you resonate with most, that feels the most urgent or insistent or needed. And brainstorm what needs to happen to make that one change become a reality.

And then begin.

One step.

One goal.

Add a reward.

Mess up.

Start again.

Evaluate what didn’t work.

And then take another step.

And the next.

And suddenly, you’re moving and gaining momentum, and it’s exciting and scary and there are unknowns and yet a certain peace threads through the frightening.

And you’re doing it!

That’s change. That’s the joy and challenge and thrill of it: knowing that you and I have the power and ability with our choice and help from on high to make any change in our lives possible.

Consider your changes, write them down and post them openly.

Keep them forefront because science says “suggestibility” makes a difference: meaning, whatever was most recently in our minds is the thing that we will recall most easily (or focus on more readily).

Let your subconscious be working on the how-to’s by remembering your dreams, goals and desires daily.

Then, live your purpose with joy.

You can do this!

Best,

Connie
