Mark 12:42
“42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.
43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury:
44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.”
The Savior noticed every person. No one was too poor, too unknown, too beneath His loving watch. I marvel how, in the busyness of what He was about, He first noticed this poor woman. Second, He called the disciples and pointed it out to them, using it as a teaching moment. And third, commended her giving as the rightful sacrifice.
Time after time, interaction after interaction, we see the Savior get right to the heart of the matter. To the young man with everything, asking how to get to heaven, He knew the one thing that would stop him, and rightfully said to go sell all he had and give it to the poor. To the woman at the well, He didn’t judge her lifestyle, but used the experience to teach her gospel truths. To the woman taken in adultery, He knew the whole truth, and spoke clearly of the only thing that mattered—for her to go her way and change her own life.
He knows you, and me, intimately. We are important to Him, in fact, we are His entire focus, even if we aren’t well-known, or have the perfect family, or the most lovely home, or the most spectacular accomplishments. Those are ways society judges our efforts and devotions. But He “looketh on the heart,” and knows our sacrifices, our hopes and dreams, and our goodness.
Today, feel the love of the Savior and His personal awareness of you and your life. Look for signs of that love and perhaps write them in your journal.
Best,
Connie
