The other day my sweet daughter had an “Invention Convention” project due—one of those homework experiences that is supposed to unite parent and child in joyous tangible creation of the imagination.
Which means, it was left to the night before to actually make said tangible creation.
My husband had a fabulous idea—let’s make it a family deal and we’ll get it done on time and with minimal stress.
And it worked!
Working with my daughter, he built her wooden treasure box, with required foot lever to open it. I helped her type the thoughts and even inserted pictures using Google instead of my archaic familiar but barely functioning program (which is why Wonder Web Jill does my techie stuff). The boys helped put away the tools and the girls helped entertain the baby.
I can honestly say it was a fabulously fun and united evening. Nothing incredibly amazing, simply a family working together to help the one in need succeed.
Next time a science fair, book report, or art project has you, the parent, in near tears, consider this time making it a Family Thing, and you might just enjoy the process.
