[From Chapter 4: Feel Fit & Fabulous]
“Eliminate Emotional Weight!
Years ago, President Thomas S. Monson retold a story from a Church News article about ships improving their sailing efficiency. He said that as ships travel the oceans, salt-water shellfish called barnacles attach themselves to their hulls. These barnacles “increase the ship’s drag, slow its progress, [and] decrease its efficiency.” Scraping them off is an expensive and difficult process. But when the captains tie up in Portland, in the fresh waters of the Willamette or Columbia rivers, “the barnacles loosen and fall away, and the ship returns to its task lightened and renewed.”1
Our bodies can feel lightened and renewed even while traveling through the difficult waters of life. But first, we need to eliminate the barnacles. Consider your top emotional barnacles in your life. Then challenge them with five false concepts and practices about our bodies with true beliefs and behaviors.”
