“There is no perfect way to ‘do’ motherhood correctly. So we can give ourselves permission to be the best mother to our children without comparison to the seemingly perfect neighborhood mother (who does not exist).
One of my friends sent me the following email: ‘I will never be the ‘culture perfect’ mom but I’m the mom my children need.
I buy crickets to feed the lizard. I rarely packed a lunch for them or made cookies, but they could make them since I showed them how, and let them do it whenever they were done with homework and felt like it.’
Some mother’s sew their children’s costumes, some buy them online with shopper savvy discounts. What matters is that we love and nurture and raise our children in the best ways they need it. And that we deeply and fully love our children, apologize for mistakes, and do and enjoy it all a little better tomorrow.”
