Moms Make a Difference!

With daily routines so familiar, and sometimes mundane,  mothers can forget that the little things they do make a big, BIG difference.
I was reading in Mary Ellen Edmunds’ “You Can’t Get Enough of What You Don’t Need” about how Mary Ellen as a young girl knew a girl in her class that was ostracized to a degree. Her mother noticed this and “had an idea. It was almost time for the annual ‘May festival’ at school. She helped this little girl get a new dress and some new shoes, and got her hair washed and fixed in an attractive way. It was like a new little person emerged! Even her own teacher didn’t recognize her!”
Another mom decided to have the family make lunches for the less fortunate. She would buy the supplies on Friday and Saturday, then on Sunday they would make them up to deliver on Monday.
Do you notice a trend? First, there was awareness, even of something seemingly small. Then, there was action, the type that involved members of ther family.
Recently, a friend of mine invited my daughter to dance again this year in the Stadium of Fire celebration. My hesitation? I will have a new baby, and driving my daughter 30-40 minutes back and forth for practices, for a month, with five other children to mother, did NOT sound appealing. This sweet friend insisted on doing the driving and would not take compensation (not yet—I have an evil plan…) I was so touched—not only by her awareness of my daughter but of my particular situation, as well as her willingness to serve. She will literally make this wonderful experience possible for my daughter this year.
So mothers, never, never, NEVER think that what you do doesn’t matter. It does. Every single day your awareness and action, little or big, makes a difference in a child’s (and another mom’s) life.
Thank you.
Best,
Connie
