The Holiest of Nights…

It’s finally here. For weeks it’s been building–the excitement of the children, the joy of serving loved ones and strangers, the sacred opportunity to know Him better. As we approach the holiest of all nights of the year, I hope we can be present. That we can open our hearts and receive the feeling of the Savior of the World entering as a tiny baby boy.
“And she brought forth her first-born son, and wrapped him in Bryson3swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room in the inn.” (Luke 2:7)
Each time I read this verse, my thoughts return to receiving that newborn in my arms. After nervously waiting to hear the first cry, and know that he or she is safe and cared for medically, I reach out my arms for that new little bundle of sacred joy.
Pure. Heaven.
It makes me cry each and every time. I can only imagine the magnified feeling in that lowly stable–the still night, the comforting rhythmic sounds of nature around them, and the star brightly lighting the night. To have Joseph enveloping Mary and their baby in arms of love and gentle security, what unspeakable peaceful joy.
That holy little family together on that wondrous night. They knew nothing yet of a murderous edict or awaiting persecution or a cruel death. For that moment, they had each other, their love and devotion, and the same from an angelic host and heavenly parents above.
The Christmas celebrations are meaningful, I embrace the exciting as well as the spiritual. And I’m already enjoying the giddy anticipation of my girls for Santa to bring something wonderful Christmas morning.
But for Christmas Eve, my heart is happy to simply sit beneath the tree, read the nativity yet again, and ponder on the birth of the most Wonderful, Mighty God, the Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.
Merry Christmas,
Connie

  1. Such a beautiful way to personalize the birth of the Savior for all of us. Mary and I…mothers together. New thought and a new concept.
