“Love Them When they’re Unlovable”

“Part of divine parenting is stressful day-to-day mothering. No matter how patient and loving a woman is there will be those times in every mother’s life when she has had it.

President Harold B. Lee shares the experience of babysitting his grandson one night, but at a BYU football game. The little five-year-old began to be restless and with merry looks from his fellow apostles, President Lee felt some pressure to have the evening go well.

After the boy fussed and was disobedient, President Lee tried to make him behave but his grandson turned around and punched him in the face. President Lee wanted to take him out and spank him, as he felt that was what he deserved.

But then he remembered something his daughter would say:…

Meaningful Moments/10,000 "Living Room" Downloads!

We just returned from a vacation to Hawaii, our last family fling before one of our sons serves a mission for the LDS church. Before we left that beautiful tropical island (sigh), we had a family night where we asked one question: “What meaningful thing did you experience on this vacation?”
Out of the wonderful responses, it was my eleven-year-old’s that really struck me. She is savvy and funny, with Cindy-Lou-Who lashes and a nature-loving spirit. She shared the following as best as I can quote it.coral_reef_life_fish_wallpapers-1400x1050
“When we went snorkeling, I noticed the fish. They all shared the ocean, and nicely. They’d pass each other and weren’t rude to each other. They would eat at the same rock and didn’t say, You can’t sit here. Sometimes I see people at school who won’t let someone sit at their table because they think they’re a freak, or not their kind. But the fish didn’t act that way. They knew they were all fish, and shared the water, and let them eat and swim and be happy, just being fish.”
Wow.

Living A Beautiful Life

Motherhood-Matters_2x3-257x300“Play dough is scattered all over the counter. Bikes are strewn in the driveway, hopscotch drawings and bits of colored chalk litter the yard. All are joyful evidences that you are a mother.

And, you can still live an aesthetically beautiful life.

Treasure the small beauties and things that are lovely, praiseworthy or of good report. Use the nice dishes. Buy a small pot of flowers for your bedside. Each week I buy flowers for our kitchen table and look for plump, ripe fruit for the baskets. The pleasure in a perfectly ripe peach cannot be measured!

Take a moment during your week to savor the beautiful things in daily life.

Pretty placemats (easy clean are still beautiful) or a new set of glasses (that actually match, imagine!) Paper napkins add a nice touch, and even a special juice or sparkling cider with dinner.

When wedding planner, Adrielle Pyper, goes to Hawaii to orchestrate a destination wedding, she isn’t prepared for what she finds.
After the trauma of her previous event, the beautiful isle of Kauai is the perfect place for Adri to unwind and do what she does best – plan. She even lets herself indulge in the attention of the groom’s handsome brother. But just when everything seems to be perfect, an afternoon snorkeling trip turns to murder when Adri discovers the body of a young woman.
Shaken, but unable to let it go, Adri’s sleuthing leads her into more danger than she could imagine. When a number of “accidents” threaten her own life, it soon becomes apparent that someone will do anything to keep Adri from interfering with their vengeance.
