Get Unstuck!

images-2Last month I had the privilege of life coaching a dear friend. Because she has nine children and I have seven, we spent the hour by phone with her in a church parking lot and me entertaining my toddler with a new train track configuration.
Where there’s a will…
Meanwhile, this amazing woman is fabulous and yet she felt some life areas weren’t functioning well and could articulate or visualize clearly how to tweak them.
With her permission, and without private info shared, I thought these three things I personally learned through this wonderful, synergistic, and connected experience may help someone else who is currently stuck.

  1. What are the top three things in your life that make you feel stuck right now?

These areas might be fitness, a relationship, organization, etc. With my friend, she wanted more consistent scripture study but without the big energy needed to make it happen. Second, she wanted her kids routines to function better. It felt like things had hit a downward slide and kids weren’t as structured or diligent as needed. Lastly, she also wanted to feel more fun, and had the support of her husband, but couldn’t get the mojo to pursue it.

  1. What is one thing you’re already doing well in those areas?

My friend realized, surprisingly to her, that she was ALREADY doing great things in these areas. This wasn’t an overhaul as she had originally thought, it was a focused tweak! That released the feeling of I’m-not-doing-enough, or good enough, or organized enough, or whatever enough. Once that left, the possibilities seemed endless, and joyful. And, she realized a routine already in place for creating joy.

  1. What is one thing in each area that you could change (add a habit, eliminate a habit, delegate a task).

As I asked questions and she considered solutions, simple doable ideas came to mind. For scripture study, she could have the kids read aloud (a two-fer as it worked on one child’s reading needs). And if they didn’t daily do a long time, they could use a Scripture Strip as a fall back to get something in their system. Second, she recognized her children’s internal routines and worked with them. Meaning, one child could do more tasks in the afternoon than first thing in the morning, so she could switch that expectation.
Lastly, back to the routine for joy in place. Having begun alone time for a few hours a week (but using it to grocery shop—um, nope), she combined it with a new book group. Now there was time to read and enjoy!
Use this real-time example to apply in your own life. What are your struggling areas? What is one way to jumpstart a change? Let me know how it works or if you need some ideas. Visit Connie’s Corner for more (a private Facebook page for support and motivation in your life changes.
